The Citizens Budget Commission released a report earlier this week that predicted the MTA wouldn’t be able to fully repair all 467 of its subway stations until 2067, with suggestions on how the transit authority could finance repairs faster. The group suggested raising money through public-private partnerships, which can be incredibly effective. But when they’re negotiated poorly, these partnerships can cost cities and states millions.
Last October, construction was making quick progress at the World Trade Center Transit Hub, dubbed the Oculus, and the structure is now receiving its finishing touches. Platform B of the PATH’s WTC station has now opened to the public, and Platform C is currently being reconstructed. According to Curbed, glass installation for the structure’s skylight is also underway.
The city has had grand plans to build a Utica Avenue subway line for nearly a century, and on Wednesday, de Blasio resurrected the idea of extending the 4 train out as far as Kings Plaza in Mill Basin, bringing trains to a transit-starved area of southeastern Brooklyn.
