Construction has passed the halfway mark on Bjarke Ingels Group‘s 1,031-foot-tall 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral. The $3.7 billion, 66-story Hudson Yards supertall is being developed by Tishman Speyer with Turner Construction Company as the construction manager. Banker Steel is in charge of manufacturing the steel and Permasteelisa is the contractor for the glass enclosure.
Construction on Bjarke Ingels Group‘s 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral, is around one-third of its full architectural height. The massive $3.7 billion Hudson Yards supertall is being built directly across the street to the north of Foster + Partners‘ 50 Hudson Yards, which has been rising neck and neck with BIG’s 66-story design throughout most of 2020. Developers are transforming a formerly brutalist building at 592 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of East 48th Street in Midtown Manhattan, and today YIMBY has the first look at its impending appearance. Formerly occupied by Bank of America, the structure is being refurbished for renewed commercial-retail use, with speculation that Puma could become an anchor tenant.
While most of YIMBY’s recent supertall coverage has focused on the 57th Street corridor projects like 220 Central Park South (nearly supertall) and 217 West 57th Street (Central Park Tower), there’s also a commercial supertall set to shine over Midtown, and it’s getting closer to beginning its ascent.
