Curtain Wall Installation Begins on FIT’s New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Façade installation has begun on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building, a ten-story structure at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot facility is planned to achieve LEED Gold certification and will feature new classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. EE Cruz & Company did the foundations and Forte Construction Corp. is serving as the general contractor for the property, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

Brooklyn Tower’s Façade Nears Completion at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn

Exterior work is getting closer to completion on The Brooklyn Tower, a 93-story residential supertall at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, the 1,066-foot skyscraper stands as the tallest structure in the outer boroughs and will yield 550 residences, with 150 condominiums, 280 market-rate rentals, and 120 affordable rentals, as well as a 100,000-square-foot retail podium that incorporates the renovated landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Gachot Studios is in charge of residential interior design, Krista Ninivaggi of Woods Bagot is handling amenity design, HMWhite is the landscape designer, R&R Scaffolding supplied the BMU, and Douglas Elliman Development Marketing Group is the exclusive marketing, sales, and leasing agent for the property, which is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and the adjoining Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn to the west.

Construction Rises on Domino Sugar Refinery Redevelopment at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is rising on the The Refinery, a commercial conversion and expansion of the 140-year-old Domino Sugar Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the $250 million project will convert the former manufacturing plant into a modern office complex while preserving the structure’s historic brick façade, arched windows, and chimney. The Refinery will stand 235 feet tall and feature a new 27,000-square-foot barrel-vaulted glass dome for a penthouse office space, as well as fully rebuilt interiors by Dencityworks and Bonetti/Kozerski, new landscaping and outdoor seating surrounding the ground floor, and reworked Domino Sugar signage above the roofline. The development is the centerpiece of the Domino Sugar master plan by SHoP Architects and James Corner Field Operations and is located to the west of Kent Avenue between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets.

Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot structure is engineered to achieve LEED Gold certification and will yield new classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. EE Cruz & Company is the general contractor for the Midtown, Manhattan project, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within close proximity of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall.

The stainless steel, aluminum, and glass façade is beginning to cover the crown of the Brooklyn Tower, a 93-story residential supertall at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, the 1,066-foot-tall structure stands as the tallest building in the outer boroughs that will boast 150 condominium units, 280 market-rate rental units, 120 affordable rental units, and 100,000-square-foot retail podium that incorporates the landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Homes for purchase are going to start over 500 feet above street level. Douglas Elliman is serving as the exclusive marketing, sales, and leasing agent for the property, which is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and the adjoining Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn to the west.

The construction crane is almost fully disassembled from The Brooklyn Tower as façade installation is closing in on completion on the 1,066-foot residential supertall at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, the 93-story tower currently stands as the tallest structure in the outer boroughs and is going to have 150 condominium units, 280 market-rate rentals, 120 affordable rental units, and 100,000-square-foot retail podium that would incorporate the landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. The first set of homes for purchase will start over 500 feet above street level. Closings Underway for SHoP Architects’ 111 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Closings have begun for the 46 condominium units within the main tower of 111 West 57th Street, a 1,428-foot residential supertall in Midtown. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, the 84-story edifice stands as the world’s most slender building. Studio Sofield is the interior designer and The Corcoran Group is leading sales and marketing for the residences, which also include 14 homes within the restored Steinway Hall building in the podium. WSP is the structural engineer, RWDI consulted with the design of the 800-ton tuned mass damper, Jaros, Baum & Bolles is the MEP engineer, R&R Scaffolding Ltd. provided the building maintenance unit (BMU) sitting atop the crown, and BuroHappold Engineering is the façade consultant for the project, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues on Billionaires’ Row.

Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, the 84-story skyscraper will yield 60 condominiums designed by Studio Sofield and marketed by The Corcoran Group. WSP is the structural engineer, Jaros, Baum & Bolles is the MEP engineer, R&R Scaffolding Ltd. provided the building maintenance unit (BMU) sitting atop the crown, RWDI consulted with the design of the dampening system, and BuroHappold Engineering is the façade consultant for the tower, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues on Billionaires’ Row.

Finishing Touches Underway on Tin Building in Seaport District, Manhattan

Finishing touches are underway on the Tin Building, a three-story commercial market building at 95 Marginal Street on Pier 17 in the South Street Seaport District. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by Howard Hughes Corporation with Plaza Construction as construction manager, the 53,000-square-foot structure will house a new seafood-themed market by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The steel-framed low-rise building is located to the east of South Street and the elevated FDR Drive, directly to the west of SHoP’s Pier 17 structure, which features multiple restaurants and bars and has hosted many events on its expansive outdoor rooftop since its completion several years ago.
