Last week, YIMBY attended a special unveiling of the amenity spaces at 111 West 57th Street, a 1,428-foot residential supertall on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development Group, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, the 84-story skyscraper yields 60 units and incorporates the restored Steinway Hall, the landmarked former showroom of the Steinway & Sons piano company. Corcoran Group is the exclusive sales and marketing representative for the property, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Available residences range from $7,750,000 to $66,000,000.

Façade installation has begun on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building, a ten-story structure at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot facility is planned to achieve LEED Gold certification and will feature new classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. EE Cruz & Company did the foundations and Forte Construction Corp. is serving as the general contractor for the property, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

Brooklyn Tower’s Façade Nears Completion at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn

Exterior work is getting closer to completion on The Brooklyn Tower, a 93-story residential supertall at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, the 1,066-foot skyscraper stands as the tallest structure in the outer boroughs and will yield 550 residences, with 150 condominiums, 280 market-rate rentals, and 120 affordable rentals, as well as a 100,000-square-foot retail podium that incorporates the renovated landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Gachot Studios is in charge of residential interior design, Krista Ninivaggi of Woods Bagot is handling amenity design, HMWhite is the landscape designer, R&R Scaffolding supplied the BMU, and Douglas Elliman Development Marketing Group is the exclusive marketing, sales, and leasing agent for the property, which is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and the adjoining Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn to the west.

Construction Rises on Domino Sugar Refinery Redevelopment at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is rising on the The Refinery, a commercial conversion and expansion of the 140-year-old Domino Sugar Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the $250 million project will convert the former manufacturing plant into a modern office complex while preserving the structure’s historic brick façade, arched windows, and chimney. The Refinery will stand 235 feet tall and feature a new 27,000-square-foot barrel-vaulted glass dome for a penthouse office space, as well as fully rebuilt interiors by Dencityworks and Bonetti/Kozerski, new landscaping and outdoor seating surrounding the ground floor, and reworked Domino Sugar signage above the roofline. The development is the centerpiece of the Domino Sugar master plan by SHoP Architects and James Corner Field Operations and is located to the west of Kent Avenue between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets.

EE Cruz & Company is the general contractor for the Midtown, Manhattan project, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within close proximity of Penn StationMadison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall.
