New York City mayor Eric Adams and New York governor Kathy Hochul have unveiled plans to construct Manhattan’s first Science Park and Research Campus (SPARC) in Kips Bay. Located on Hunter College’s Brookdale Campus at East 25th Street and First Avenue, SPARC is described as a career and education innovation hub for life sciences.
Construction is complete on Beach 21, a ten-story affordable housing building at 10-47 Beach 21st Street in Far Rockaway, Queens. Developed by The Community Builders with support from New York City’s Economic Development Corporation, Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and Housing Development Corporation, the structure yields 224 units reserved for New Yorkers earning 40 to 80 percent area median income (AMI) and 23 units for the formerly homeless, as well as 28,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and community space including a daycare center. The project is part of the city’s Downtown Far Rockaway Revitalization Plan and is located between Mott Avenue to the north and Cornaga Avenue to the south.
City officials recently celebrated the commencement of construction on a new public health laboratory and contagion testing center at 40 West 137th Street in Harlem. The facility will serve as headquarters for New York City Public Health Laboratory and will be operated by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Construction is ongoing on the first phase of the $100 million East Midtown Greenway, a three-segment reimagining of the East Midtown Waterfront esplanade in Sutton Place between East 38th to East 61st Streets. Photographs below focus on the northernmost part of the scheme, which will span between East 53rd and East 61st Streets in Midtown, Manhattan. This part will include a new park entrance at East 60th Street, a pedestrian bridge, and the revamping of Andrew Haswell Green Park and the Alice Aycock Pavilion. The overall master plan aims to create new green space for pedestrian and bicyclists and provide safer access to the eastern edge of the island, which had been largely impeded by the FDR Drive.
Developers and elected officials recently joined to celebrate the completion of Peninsula 1B, the first affordable housing building in The Peninsula complex at 720 Tiffany Street in Hunts Point, The Bronx. The building comprises 183 income-restricted units and a modest collection of amenities.
