350 West 44th Street’s Exterior Progresses in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Construction has topped out on 350 West 44th Street, a seven-story residential building in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed by Z Architecture and developed by Yevgeniy Lvovskiy of ZHL Group under the 350 West 44th LLC, the 66-foot-tall structure will span 31,497 square feet and yield 29 condominium units with an average scope of 964 square feet, as well as 3,518 square feet of commercial space, a cellar level, and a 30-foot-long rear yard. YM Pro Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is located on an interior lot between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, directly south of McCaffrey Playground.

ODA’s 126 East 57th Street Begins Ascent in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 126 East 57th Street, a 28-story residential building on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by ODA Architecture and developed by MRR Development under the MRR 1326 LLC, the 346-foot-tall structure will yield 147 condominium units with an average scope of 1,156 square feet, as well as 5,000 square feet of lower-level retail space. WSP USA is the engineer and Plaza Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is being constructed on an L-shaped parcel at the corner of East 56th Street and Lexington Avenue, with a narrow extension to East 57th Street.

125 West 57th Street’s Glass Façade Begins Installation in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 125 West 57th Street, a 26-story commercial building on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International, the 440-foot-tall structure will span 260,000 square feet and yield 185,000 square feet of Class A office space, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and a new home for the Calvary Baptist Church, which has operated on the site since 1883 and sold the property to the developers for $150 million in 2017. Leading Builders Group is the general contractor for the project, which is located on an interior lot between Sixth and Seventh Avenues between Christian de Portzamparc‘s One57 and SHoP Architects‘ 111 West 57th Street.

JPMorgan Chase’s Supertall Nears its Pinnacle at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

The tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is JPMorgan Chase‘s 1,388-foot supertall headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East. Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners with Adamsom Associates as the architect of record and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 60-story skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space with a capacity of 15,000 employees, and will become the tallest structure in New York completely powered by hydroelectric energy. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the full-block property, which is bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.

Demolition Finishes at 620 Twelfth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Demolition has concluded at 620 Twelfth Avenue, the site of a six-story storage and office facility in Hells Kitchen. Owned by Edison Properties and leased to Verizon Communications for $50 million, the structure will span 269,000 square feet and include a cellar level, which may feature on-site parking for the network operator. Nordest Services served as the demolition contractor for the property, which is alternately addressed as 648 West 48th Street and is bound by West 47th and West 48th Streets and the Hudson River Greenway.

Foundation Work Progresses for 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

At number two on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 740 Eighth Avenue, a 1,067-foot mixed-use supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by ODA with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Extell, the 52-story structure will span 776,000 square feet with an 825-room hotel on the lower half and a public observatory with a drop ride attraction above. The property will also feature lower-level retail space, a restaurant on two of the upper floors, and a pool deck for hotel guests. Lendlease is the general contractor, WSP is the structural engineer, and Ancora Engineering is handling excavation and foundations for the project, which is located along Eighth Avenue between West 45th and 46th Streets on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

520 Fifth Avenue’s Curtain Wall Takes Shape in Midtown, Manhattan

At number three on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 520 Fifth Avenue, a 1,000-foot residential supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 76-story structure will span 415,000 square feet and yield 98 condominium units with interior design by Charles & Co., as well as commercial space on the ground floor and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

Exterior Work Nears Completion on Aloft Hotel at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Leading off the top ten on our annual countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 642-foot-tall Aloft Hotel in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 51-story skyscraper will yield 379 guest rooms and amenities including a business center, a ballroom, and a fourth-floor restaurant with a bar and outdoor terrace. Atria Builders is the general contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

550 Tenth Avenue Tops Out in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

At number 15 on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 550 Tenth Avenue, a 520-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 47-story structure will span 430,000 square feet and yield 453 rental units, with 137 reserved for affordable housing, as well as 9,000 square feet of lower-level retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. GO Covenant LLC is the owner and Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

Foundations Underway For Rolex Headquarters at 665 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 21 on our annual year-end construction countdown is the Rolex headquarters, a 469-foot-tall commercial building at 665 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects with Adamson Associates as the architect of record and developed by the Rolex Realty Company, the 28-story structure will yield 199,000 square feet of office and retail space for the world-famous watchmaker. Pavarini McGovern is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 53rd Street.
