Nexstar Media Group, the largest TV station operator in the United States, has secured a full-floor sublease at 1301 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown, Manhattan. Nexstar will rent 68,114 square feet on the building’s seventh floor from tax advisory firm CohnReznick. The deal was facilitated by Avison Young.
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has unveiled a new set of renderings of its 4.1-million-square-foot proposal for Freedom Plaza, a potential mixed-use casino development on the border of Murray Hill and Tudor City. Developed by The Soloviev Group, which currently owns the property, in a joint collaboration with Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, plans call for two new residential skyscrapers rising 50 to 60 stories tall with 1,325 apartments, including 510 affordable housing units, as well as two 51-story hotel towers with 1,200 guest rooms split between Banyan Tree and Mohegan branding. A new landscaped waterfront park, a below-grade casino, and a museum would sit beneath the skyscrapers. The 6.5-acre property is the largest undeveloped plot in Manhattan, and is located along First Avenue between East 38th and East 41st Streets, directly south of the United Nations complex.
Construction is nearing topping out on 125 West 57th Street, a 26-story commercial building on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International, the 440-foot-tall structure will span 260,000 square feet and yield 185,000 square feet of Class A office space, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and a new home for the Calvary Baptist Church, which has operated on the site since 1883 and sold the property to the developers for $150 million in 2017. Leading Builders Group is the general contractor for the project, which is located on an interior lot between Sixth and Seventh Avenues between Christian de Portzamparc‘s One57 and SHoP Architects‘ 111 West 57th Street.
Construction is continuing to rise on 126 East 57th Street, a 28-story residential building on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by ODA Architecture and developed by MRR Development under the MRR 1326 LLC, the rising 346-foot-tall structure will yield 147 condominium units with an average scope of 1,156 square feet, as well as 5,000 square feet of lower-level retail space. WSP USA is the engineer and Plaza Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is being constructed on an L-shaped parcel at the corner of East 56th Street and Lexington Avenue, with a narrow extension to East 57th Street.
Last week, Skidmore Owings & Merrill and Brookfield Properties announced the completion of Two Manhattan West, a 58-story commercial skyscraper in Midtown West. The 935-foot-tall structure yields 1.9 million square feet of office space and is the final component of the 7-million-square-foot Manhattan West complex, a $4.5 billion, five-building master plan more than 40 years in the making. R&R Scaffolding Ltd. supplied the BMUs and AECOM Tishman served as the general contractor for Two Manhattan West, which is located at the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 31st Street, between the James A. Farley Building to the east and Hudson Yards to the west.
