LPC to Review Proposal for an Observation Deck at the Chrysler Building

Proposals to construct a new observation deck on the upper floors of the Chrysler Building have arrived for review by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. As promised by Aby Rosen, co-founder of RFR Holding and part-owner of the Midtown East icon, these plans comprise just one phase of his vision to invigorate interior spaces of the landmark at 405 Lexington Avenue with new restaurants, a food hall, and retail spaces.

Permits Filed for Morris Adjmi-Designed 10 West 55th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Permits have been filed for a 24-story mixed-use building at 10 West 55th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. Located between 5th and 6th Avenues, the through lot is close to the 5th Avenue-53 Street subway station, serviced by the E and M trains, and 57th Street station, serviced by the F train. Leonard Wilf of Garden Homes under the 18 West 55th Street, LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications. The family behind Garden Homes and Skyline Developers purchased the abutting 9 West 54th Street and 10 West 55th Street lots, a combined 22,500 square feet, for $75 million last year.

Vornado’s ‘Penn15’ Redevelopment of Hotel Pennsylvania Once Again Re-Imagined in New Renderings, in Midtown

A new iteration of the redevelopment of the Hotel Pennsylvania has surfaced from Vornado. The design has been updated from the one that debuted last year, which placed Facebook as the anchor tenant of a 2.8-million-square-foot supertall. Located at 401 Seventh Avenue, the site of the deteriorating hotel was first re-envisioned by Pelli Clarke Pelli as 15 Penn Plaza, and then re-conceived by Rafael Vinoly as “Penn15”. Facebook subsequently took up residence at another Midtown building, the James A. Farley Post Office conversion, leasing 700,000 square feet, evidently resulting in yet another re-imagination of the site and its potential.

First Renderings Revealed for Solow’s 52-Story Skyscraper at 12 West 57th Street, in Midtown Manhattan

Today, YIMBY has the exclusive scoop for the first renderings of developer Sheldon Solow’s next skyscraper, at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. The 672-foot-tall, 52-story skyscraper will rise directly across 57th Street from the Solow Building at 9 West 57th Street, and is also designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill. Solow Management Corp. filed permits for the development in 2019, and since then demolition has been clearing the buildings on the lot, spanning from 10 to 20 West 57th Street and back to 56th Street, one by one.
