Demolition Begins For Final Piece of Extell’s 775-Foot-Tall 50 West 66th Street on the Upper West Side

One of the more interesting new designs coming to Manhattan will be at 50 West 66th Street, where Extell will soon be adding yet another punctuation mark to the city’s skyline. The site is just six blocks away from Columbus Circle, and down the block from Central Park. The building was last on our radar in late 2017, with the news that the project would dramatically increase in size to become the tallest tower on the Upper West Side, taking away the title from  200 Amsterdam Avenue before it could even begin rising. Now, demolition has officially begun on the assemblage’s last structural occupant, while excavation continues apace across the land that has already been cleared.

Extell’s 50 West 66th Street Triples In Size, Will Become Tallest Tower on Upper West Side

YIMBY reported on the first permits for a new 25-story development at 50 West 66th Street back in 2015. But since then, the site has seen a dramatic expansion. The Real Deal reports that the developer, Extell, has now acquired approximately 201,000 square feet of additional air rights for $202 million, and renderings have been released of the revised plans for the tower, by Snohetta, which indicate it will one-up 200 Amsterdam Avenue to become the tallest tower on the Upper West Side.

Groundbreaking for The Printhouse, 165 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle

New Rochelle has seen several new high-rises announced over the past few weeks, but in between the new towers, infill development continues to improve the burgeoning edge city. Yesterday, The Printhouse, at 165 Huguenot Street, broke ground. The building will have 71 rental units, seven of which will be designated as affordable, and will rise six floors. New Details Revealed for Six Cortlandt Alley, Five-Unit Mixed-Use Condo Project in TriBeCa

Back in January of 2014, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the eight-story, five-unit mixed-use project at 372 Broadway, in TriBeCa. Construction began on the building’s conversion in early 2015, and now YIMBY has new details and never-before-seen renderings of the condominium project, which goes by Six Cortlandt Alley. Curbed NY was the first to report on the project’s sales launch.
