Demolition Begins For Final Piece of Extell’s 775-Foot-Tall 50 West 66th Street on the Upper West Side

One of the more interesting new designs coming to Manhattan will be at 50 West 66^th Street, where Extell will soon be adding yet another punctuation mark to the city’s skyline. The site is just six blocks away from Columbus Circle, and down the block from Central Park. The building was last on our radar in late 2017, with the news that the project would dramatically increase in size to become the tallest tower on the Upper West Side, taking away the title from 200 Amsterdam Avenue before it could even begin rising. Now, demolition has officially begun on the assemblage’s last structural occupant, while excavation continues apace across the land that has already been cleared.

YIMBY reported on the first permits for a new 25-story development at 50 West 66th Street back in 2015. But since then, the site has seen a dramatic expansion. The Real Deal reports that the developer, Extell, has now acquired approximately 201,000 square feet of additional air rights for $202 million, and renderings have been released of the revised plans for the tower, by Snohetta, which indicate it will one-up 200 Amsterdam Avenue to become the tallest tower on the Upper West Side.

Groundbreaking for The Printhouse, 165 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle

New Rochelle has seen several new high-rises announced over the past few weeks, but in between the new towers, infill development continues to improve the burgeoning edge city. Yesterday, The Printhouse, at 165 Huguenot Street, broke ground. The building will have 71 rental units, seven of which will be designated as affordable, and will rise six floors. Megalith Capital is developing alongside East & Hudson, while Magnusson Architecture and Planning is designing. The full rundown is available in the latest from the city’s Mayor’s Office.

New Details Revealed for Six Cortlandt Alley, Five-Unit Mixed-Use Condo Project in TriBeCa

Back in January of 2014, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the eight-story, five-unit mixed-use project at 372 Broadway, in TriBeCa. Construction began on the building’s conversion in early 2015, and now YIMBY has new details and never-before-seen renderings of the condominium project, which goes by Six Cortlandt Alley. Curbed NY was the first to report on the project’s sales launch.

181 Front Street Reaches Second Floor, DUMBO

It’s been over half a year since we gave you an update on 181 Front Street, a mixed-use project between Jay Street and Bridge Street in DUMBO. Back in July, foundation work was being done. Now, there’s some building to be seen. Photos sent to us by our friend Tectonic, show the structure is about two-stories off the ground.

Permits Filed: 25-Story Building at 36 West 66th Street, Upper West Side

Last year, Megalith Capital shelled out $85 million for three buildings on West 66th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West. Now the firm has filed plans for a 25-story mixed-use development there at 36 West 66th Street, down the block from Lincoln Center.

Foundation Work Underway For 12-Story Rental Building At 181 Front Street, Dumbo

In April, YIMBY noted excavation was underway at 181 Front Street, in Dumbo, where Megalith Capital Management and Urban Realty Partners are building a 12-story, 105-unit rental building, which will also have 1,490 square feet of retail on the ground floor. Now, foundation work is beginning, according to Brownstoner. The project also consists of the conversion at 200 Water Street, where 15 condominiums are planned, and Aufgang Architects is designing, with completion slated for 2016.

Construction Update: 181 Front Street and 200 Water Street, Dumbo

A condo conversion and a new 12-story rental building are slowly taking shape at two former Jehovah’s Witnesses properties in Dumbo. Two years ago, Landmarks approved plans to convert an old Brillo factory at 200 Water Street into 15 condos, which will include two-, three- and four-bedrooms with terraces.
