Brooklyn Heights Cinema has gotten the final nail in its coffin. The existing nearly double height single-story structure at 70 Henry Street, which dates back to 1896, will be subsumed by a five-story building designed by Morris Adjmi, thanks to approval by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday.
On Tuesday. the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate the former Bank of Manhattan Company Building at 29-27 Queens Plaza North, in Long Island City, as an individual landmark, preserving it for generations to come. The developer of what is expected to be the borough’s tallest building (and the new tallest building outside Manhattan), which will be next door, already plans to work with the landmark structure.
The landmarked Pavilion Theater at 188 Prospect Park West in South Slope will be converted to condos and renovated to include space for a new movie theater.
