Journal Squared’s Third Residential Skyscraper Underway in Jersey City, New Jersey

At number 23 on our year-end countdown is Journal Squared Tower 3, a 60-story residential skyscraper under construction in Jersey City‘s Journal Square neighborhood. Designed by HWKN Architecture and Handel Architects and developed by Kushner Real Estate Group and National Real Estate Advisors, the tower is the final component of the three-skyscraper complex and will top out as the second tallest, yielding 600 rental apartments with interiors designed by Major and Handel Architects. The development is bound by Pavonia Avenue to the north and Summit Avenue to the east. Groundbreaking occurred in early October.

Work on the second phase of Journal Squared at 537 Summit Avenue in Jersey City is progressing rapidly. Construction workers are pouring the floor slabs for what will become a 72-story residential skyscraper. The structure is set to stand 759 feet and become the tallest of the proposed trio of towers, of which one is already completed next door. All three are being designed by HWKN/Hollwich Kushner and Handel Architects. Kushner Real Estate Development is the developer of the entire site, which sits adjacent to the Journal Square PATH train station on a hill overlooking New York City. The second phase will yield 700 units, 18,000 square feet of retail space, and a gross floor space of roughly 1,000,000 square feet.

After a few years of waiting, construction has finally begun on the second phase of Journal Squared, in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood. Back in August, YIMBY interviewed Mayor Fulop who indicated progress on the site would be imminent, and now the latest photos from apophenic show that excavation has officially commenced on the tower. Designed by HWKN/Hollwich Kushner and Handel Architects, it will stand 72 floors and 759 feet to its rooftop.

Construction Wrapping on First 53-Story, 538-Unit Journal Squared Tower, 605 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City

Kushner Real Estate Group’s 53-story, 538-unit mixed-use building at 605 Pavonia Avenue, in the Journal Square section of Jersey City, is now fully clad. The tower’s construction crane has been removed, as seen in a photo posted on Instagram by the owners via the YIMBY Forums. The rental tower contains a very large parking garage as well as retail space. It’s the first of three towers in the Journal Squared mega-development, which includes additional 60- and 70-story sibling towers. The entire development will boast 1,838 residential units and 36,000 square feet of retail space. As for this first completed tower, which topped out in December of 2015, occupancy is expected by the end of this year. HWKN and Handel Architects are responsible for the design. The complex will be located a stone’s throw away from the neighborhood’s PATH station.
