New York development firm Rabina has closed on a $540 million construction package to complete a new supertall tower at 520 Fifth Avenue. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, the structure will top out at 1,000 feet and contain a collection of condominiums and associated amenity spaces, boutique office space, a ground-floor retail component, and public recreation space.

Excavation Underway for Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 520 Fifth Avenue Supertall in Midtown, Manhattan

Excavation is progressing at 520 Fifth Avenue, site of a 76-story mixed-use supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox for Rabina Properties, which took over as the lead developer in 2019 from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA, the 995-foot-tall, 507,608-square-foot structure will yield 98 residential units, commercial space, and four cellar levels. Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is located on a 10,625-square-foot lot at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street.

Work is continuing on the renovation of 660 Fifth Avenue, a 64-year-old, 39-story commercial building in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Brookfield Properties, the project involves an interior overhaul and a complete re-cladding, replacing the old aluminum envelope with a modern glass curtain wall. The 1.25 million-square-foot property is located along Fifth Avenue between West 52nd and 53rd Streets and was formerly addressed as 666 Fifth Avenue.

Demolition Begins for KPF-Designed Office Supertall at 343 Madison Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

Demolition work is ramping up at 343 Madison Avenue, the site of a 1,050-foot commercial supertall in Midtown East and number seven on our end-of-year countdown. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Boston Properties, the 55-story structure will rise from a 25,000-square-foot rectangular site between East 44th and 45th Streets that is currently occupied by a 15-story building that formerly housed the Metropolitan Transportation Authority headquarters. The new tower will yield 832,613 square feet of office space, 5,357 square feet of retail space, and 5,357 square feet of subterranean circulation paths to Grand Central Terminal and the future East Side Access project. Rezoning plans for 343 Madison Avenue were approved by the City Council in mid November.
