High Line Moynihan Connector’s Wooden Truss Bridge Readies for Installation in Midtown West, Manhattan

Construction is coming together on the High Line Moynihan Connector, a nearly 1,200-foot-long extension of the High Line linking the elevated park with the five-building Manhattan West complex in Midtown West. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and James Corner Field Operations and developed in a public-private partnership between Empire State Development (ESD), Friends of the High Line, and Brookfield Properties, the $50 million project consists of two 600-foot-long ADA-accessible bridges and will allow for easier access to Moynihan Train Hall and Penn Station. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor for the walkway, which runs along West 30th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues and turns to the north at Dyer Avenue to connect to the elevated southwestern corner of the Manhattan West plaza above West 31st Street.

Construction Rises on Domino Sugar Refinery Redevelopment at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is rising on the The Refinery, a commercial conversion and expansion of the 140-year-old Domino Sugar Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the $250 million project will convert the former manufacturing plant into a modern office complex while preserving the structure’s historic brick façade, arched windows, and chimney. The Refinery will stand 235 feet tall and feature a new 27,000-square-foot barrel-vaulted glass dome for a penthouse office space, as well as fully rebuilt interiors by Dencityworks and Bonetti/Kozerski, new landscaping and outdoor seating surrounding the ground floor, and reworked Domino Sugar signage above the roofline. The development is the centerpiece of the Domino Sugar master plan by SHoP Architects and James Corner Field Operations and is located to the west of Kent Avenue between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets.

Eagle + West Wraps Up Construction at 227 West Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Construction is finishing up on Eagle + West, a pair of stepped and cantilevering 30- and 40-story residential towers at 227 West Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by OMA and Beyer Blinder Belle and developed by Brookfield Property Partners and Park Tower Group, the project yields 745 units in studio to three-bedroom layouts, with 224 residences designated as affordable housing. Marmol Radziner is the interior designer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers served as the structural engineer, Thornton Tomasetti was the façade consultant, and Highbury Concrete constructed the property, which is located at the corner of Eagle and West Streets. James Corner Field Operations designed the adjacent riverfront esplanade to the west.

Tree Planting Begins at Gansevoort Peninsula Park on the West Village Waterfront, Manhattan

Tree planting has begun as landscaping work progresses on Gansevoort Peninsula Park, a 5.5-acre public recreational space along the Hudson River waterfront off the West Village. Designed by James Corner Field Operations and commissioned by the Hudson River Park Trust, the park will feature a soccer field surrounded by numerous pathways, stepped seating, a children’s playground, kayak slips, a salt marsh, a dog run, viewing platforms, and Manhattan’s first public sandy beach.
