Plans Approved for Masjid Al-Arapha’s Three-Story Mosque at 88-49 179th Place, Jamaica

The Buildings Department has approved plans for Masjid Al-Arapha to build a three-story, 15,120-square-foot religious facility at 88-49 179th Place, located immeadiately east of downtown Jamaica. The project will measure 15,120 square feet and rise 35 feet in height. It will contain prayer areas on the ground and second floors, followed by classrooms for children ages three through 12 on the third floor. The cellar will contain a kitchen and a 22-car parking garage. Jamil M. Coppin’s Fresh Meadows-based architecture firm is the architect of record. The 80-foot-wide, 8,615-square-foot property is currently vacant. The Jamaica-179th Street stop on the F train is located a block away.



170-19 105th Avenue

Two Three-Story, Two-Unit Residential Buildings Coming to 170-19 105th Avenue, Jamaica

Queens-based Samiara & Max Holding has filed applications for two three-story, two-family buildings at 170-17 – 170-19 105th Avenue, located on the corner of 171st Street in Jamaica (just east of its downtown). The new buildings will measure 3,358 square feet and 3,322 square feet respectively. Across both, the residential units should average a family-sized 1,202 square feet apiece. In each structure, there will be one unit on the ground floor, followed by another on the second and third floors. Amenities include a rooftop recreation area atop the buildings, a total of three off-street parking spots (two enclosed), and storage space in the cellar. Bakhtiar Shamloo’s Kew Gardens-based Tabriz Design Group is the architect of record. The 5,000-square-foot corner lot is occupied by a two-story house. Demolition permits were filed in April.


92-32 Union Hall Street

110-Key Hotel Conversion Planned at 92-32 Union Hall Street, Jamaica

Stefan Solakiewicz, doing business as a New Jersey-based LLC, has filed applications to convert the six-story, 55,000-square-foot office building at 92-32 Union Hall Street, in Downtown Jamaica, into a 110-key hotel. The structure will remain the same size, featuring 52,241 square feet of commercial space, although the property boasts 24,500 square feet of air rights. The ground floor will host the hotel’s lobby as well as an unspecified amount of retail space. The hotel rooms will be located on the second through sixth floors, with 22 units per floor. Chelsea-based C3D Architecture is the architect of record. The building is located three blocks from the Jamaica Center-Parsons/Architect Station on the E, J, and Z trains. The property was acquired for $1.1 million in 2013.


89-14 150th Street

Construction Wrapping On Nine-Story, 22-Unit Mixed-Use Project at 89-14 150th Street, Jamaica

With the exception to window installation, exterior construction is nearly done on the nine-story, 22-unit mixed-use building under development at 89-14 150th Street, in Downtown Jamaica. A tipster sent along a photo to YIMBY of the construction site. The building measures 30,466 square feet. The cellar level will contain 2,884 square feet of medical offices, while the residential units, beginning on the second floor, should average 1,031 square feet apiece. The apartments will be condominiums, coming in two- and three-bedroom configurations. Amenities include bicycle storage, laundry facilities, a recreational area on the ground floor, an 11-car parking garage on the ground floor, and a terrace on the eighth floor. Kingston Property is the developer, while Maspeth-based Angelo Ng & Anthony Ng Architects Studio is the architect of record. Completion is expected in 2017, although work appears to be ahead of schedule. The project was two stories above street level in September of 2015.
