125 West 57th Street’s Glass Façade Begins Installation in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 125 West 57th Street, a 26-story commercial building on Billionaires’ Row in MidtownManhattan. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International, the 440-foot-tall structure will span 260,000 square feet and yield 185,000 square feet of Class A office space, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and a new home for the Calvary Baptist Church, which has operated on the site since 1883 and sold the property to the developers for $150 million in 2017. Leading Builders Group is the general contractor for the project, which is located on an interior lot between Sixth and Seventh Avenues between Christian de Portzamparc‘s One57 and SHoP Architects111 West 57th Street.

The property occupies a full city block bound by West 35th Street to the north, West 34th Street to the south, Bella Abzug Park to the east, and Eleventh Avenue to the west.

Façade Installation Progresses on 420 Carroll Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn

Façade installation is progressing on 420 Carroll Street, a two-tower residential complex in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Domain Companies, the project consists of a 20-story, 224-foot-tall tower and a shorter 15-story sibling and will yield 360 units with 25 percent reserved for affordable housing, as well as 27,500 square feet of retail space, 7,700 square feet of “Gowanus Mix” space pursuant to the 82-block district rezoning, and a new public promenade along the Gowanus Canal. Studio Mainer is the interior designer, Scape is the landscape architect, and Mega Contracting Group is the general contractor for the development, which strands on a trapezoidal plot bound by Carroll Street to the north, the Powerhouse Arts building and its parking lot to the south, and the Gowanus Canal to the west.
