340 Flatbush Ave Ext. Revealed, Brooklyn’s First Supertall Skyscraper

Back in June of 2014, YIMBY reported on new building applications filed by JDS Development for a tower coming to 340 Flatbush Avenue Ext., on the southeastern edge of Downtown Brooklyn. Now, we have the first rendering and actual details for the SHoP-designed tower, which will rise 1,000 feet tall, claiming the title of New York City’s tallest building outside of Manhattan, and giving Brooklyn its first legitimate supertall skyscraper.

Construction Update: 286 Ashland Place, aka BAM South, 32-Story Mixed-Use Project

While the Downtown Brooklyn construction boom’s biggest impact will be the addition of residential space, its effects on the streetscape are also going to be significant, and few projects will be more significant to the pedestrian experience than 286 Ashland Place. The building, which is being designed by TEN Arquitectos and developed by Two Trees, will soon stand 32 stories tall, but its significant presence at the street level is already becoming apparent, per the latest photos from Tectonic.

Vision: Plans for Downtown Brooklyn Macy’s Redevelopment by Leeser Architecture and Ismael Leyva

YIMBY previously posted renderings of a tentative redesign and redevelopment set for the Macy’s store in Downtown Brooklyn, and now we have another submission from the project’s competition, though evidently this creation was not selected. The design comes from Leeser Architecture and would have featured two residential towers in addition to new and revamped retail space.
