Located between East 156th and East 157th Streets, the corner site is one block east of the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Third Avenue. Less than a half mile east is the Jackson Avenue subway station serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. In August of 2018, a proposed remedy was released by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to address brownfield contamination so the site can be redeveloped.

This site is three blocks away from the Norwood Avenue subway station, serviced by the J trains. The building is being developed by the NYC Housing Preservation and Development agency.

The site is two blocks away from the Alabama Avenue subway station, serviced by the J and Z trains. The Liberty Avenue subway station is also two blocks away, serviced by the C train. Pennrose is listed as behind the applications.
Last December, YIMBY revealed the renderings for 399 Sands Street in the Brooklyn Navy Yard Industrial Park. Now, the official groundbreaking for the nine-story office building has occurred. The structure will house between 700 to 1,000 jobs once complete. It is part of the $1 billion redevelopment project dedicated to fueling New York City’s economy with infrastructure for 10,000 new jobs in manufacturing and creative businesses. The non-profit Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is realizing the project through private developers, and Steiner NYC is responsible for 399 Sands Street.
