Brownsville, in eastern Brooklyn, is one of the few places in the five boroughs where the city still owns plenty of vacant lots. One of those properties is about to be put to good use as supportive housing. The city has filed plans for an eight-story, 71-unit development at 214 Hegeman Avenue, at the southern edge of Brownsville near Canarsie.
Construction is now underway on the top floor of the 13-story, 157-unit residential building under development at 530 Exterior Street, in the South Bronx’s Mott Haven section. Progress can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the building will encompass 151,107 square feet and rise 120 feet to its main roof, not including bulkhead elements. The apartments should average 910 square feet apiece. All of them will rent at below-market rates through the affordable housing lottery. Monadnock Construction is the developer and Dattner Architects is the architect. Completion is anticipated in early 2018, although it appears the project is much ahead of schedule.
Construction is now underway on the seventh floor of the 12-story, 123-unit mixed-use building under development at 15 Lafayette Avenue, located on the corner of Ashland Place in Downtown Brooklyn. The latest building permits state the project will measure 120,093 square feet and rise 138 feet to its main roof, not including the bulkhead.
Last time YIMBY checked in on Prospect Plaza in March, construction on the big affordable development in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn was chugging right along. Now, another building has been filed for the second phase of the project, at 1760 Prospect Place between Howard and Saratoga avenues.
Construction is complete on the residential conversion of the former P.S. 186, a previously-dilapidated five-story structure located at 525 West 145th Street, in the Hamilton Heights section of Harlem. The latest photos of the building, dubbed the Residences at PS186, can be seen in a Curbed NY report. The building contains 79 residential units, all of which are renting at below-market rates through the affordable housing lottery. The apartments, ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, should average 1,089 square feet apiece. The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem will occupy 11,000 square feet of space on the ground floor.
