Steiner Studios, the city’s largest movie production complex, has filed new building applications for a big new facility at 15 Washington Avenue in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
YIMBY last checked in on 333 Schermerhorn Street, in Downtown Brooklyn, back in September, and since then the structure has grown rapidly, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reports. The 56-story, 750-unit mixed-use tower is only weeks from topping out, with just five floors to go, and façade work can also be seen wrapping around the lower portion of the skyscraper. Upon completion, it will be (temporarily) the tallest building in Brooklyn, standing 610 feet above street level. Of the residential units, 150 of them will be set aside as affordable housing and 34,823 square feet of retail space is planned. Douglas Steiner is developing, Dattner Architects is designing, and move-ins are expected in mid-2016.
Nearly a year ago, YIMBY reported on applications for a 12-story, 109-unit mixed-use building at 15 Lafayette Avenue, in Fort Greene/Downtown Brooklyn, and now a ground-breaking ceremony has been held to kick off construction at the site. According to Brownstoner, 40% of the apartments will be let at below-market rates, and 21,400 square feet of cultural community space will be located in the base, with The Center for Fiction and Mark Morris Dance Group both taking space.
Yesterday, we checked in on Two Trees’ new tower at 286 Ashland Place, where construction is making rapid headway. Work seems to be moving at a similar place at 333 Schermerhorn Street, just a few blocks away, where Douglas Steiner’s 53-story project dubbed “The Hub” is now roughly two-thirds of the way to its pinnacle, per the latest from Tectonic.
L+M Development and Hornig Capital Partners have filed applications for a 12-story, 133-unit mixed-use building at 4439 Third Avenue in Belmont, between East 181st and 182nd Streets. All of the residential units will rent at below-market rates, and average a relatively spacious 955 square feet apiece. Another 11,425 square feet of communal facility space will operate on the ground floor, and Dattner Architects is designing.
