YIMBY Reveals Interior Renovations of One Wall Street’s Red Room, in Financial District

In the midst of the largest office-to-condo conversion in New York City history at One Wall Street, its famous Red Room is undergoing a 16-month-long renovation. Designed in 1931 by renowned muralist Hildreth Meière, the former banking hall’s walls and ceilings are lined with 8,911 square feet of oxblood, orange, and gold glass tile mosaic, some of which has become damaged over the years. The Red Room will likely serve as retail space when the building reopens, which is expected to be in 2021. Macklowe Properties is the developer of the $1.5 billion Financial District conversion and expansion. CORE is handling sales and marketing of the planned 566 housing units in the rest of the Ralph Walker-designed skyscraper. SLCE Architects is serving as the architect of record.

ODA-Designed Hotel Rises Above Street Level at 1548 Bedford Avenue, in Crown Heights

The superstructure for ODA’s future five-story hotel at 1548 Bedford Avenue is now above ground in Crown Heights. The site is located along Bedford Avenue between Union Street and Eastern Parkway, and is a couple of blocks away from Prospect Park. The 38,300-square-foot project will yield 100 hotel rooms, a ground-floor banquet hall and restaurant, café, and shared terraces on the third and fourth levels. The fifth floor will be topped with a rooftop garden and a bar. Yoel Schwimmer is the developer.

YIMBY went on a hard hat tour of Dahlia, a new 20-story condominium on the Upper West Side at 212 West 95th Street. The topped-out structure, which is located on the southeast corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 95th Street, is designed by CetraRuddy with RKTB Architects as the architect of record and JRM as the construction manager. United Management worked in conjunction with Certes Partners to develop the the property. The building contains 38 residences, which range from two- to four-bedroom layouts and include two penthouses and six select homes with private outdoor spaces. Reuveni Real Estate is the exclusive sales and marketing agent for the development.

40 East End Avenue And Its Classically-Inspired Exterior Near Completion on the Upper East Side

Work on the façade and interiors of 40 East End Avenue is nearing completion on the Upper East Side. The 81,000-square-foot, 29-unit residential building is located at the corner of East 81st Street and will feature two- to five-bedroom apartments, a maisonette, and a duplex penthouse with a private rooftop terrace. Pricing for the residences will range from $3 million to $25 million. Deborah Berke Partners designed the 210-foot, 20-story project in collaboration with Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects. Lightstone is the developer, while Corcoran Sunshine is responsible for sales and marketing.

Journal Squared’s Next 72-Story Residential Skyscraper Rising Rapidly at 537 Summit Avenue, in Jersey City

Work on the second phase of Journal Squared at 537 Summit Avenue in Jersey City is progressing rapidly. Construction workers are pouring the floor slabs for what will become a 72-story residential skyscraper. The structure is set to stand 759 feet and become the tallest of the proposed trio of towers, of which one is already completed next door. All three are being designed by HWKN/Hollwich Kushner and Handel ArchitectsKushner Real Estate Development is the developer of the entire site, which sits adjacent to the Journal Square PATH train station on a hill overlooking New York City. The second phase will yield 700 units, 18,000 square feet of retail space, and a gross floor space of roughly 1,000,000 square feet.
