Central Park Tower Reaches Final Stages of Construction in Midtown, Manhattan

Central Park Tower‘s exterior work has reached the finishing stages as construction nears completion on the 1,550-foot Billionaires’ Row supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Addressed as 217 West 57th Street, the soaring 131-story skyscraper is designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Extell and holds the crown as the tallest structure by roof height in the Western Hemisphere and the tallest residential building in the world. Corcoran Sunshine and Extell Marketing Group are leading sales for its 179 units and are anticipating a $4 billion sellout. The property rises between West 57th and West 58th Streets and includes Nordstrom retail frontage along Broadway.

Designed by BKSK Architects and developed by 144 Barrow Street LLC, the 24,800-square-foot structure will yield 16 units and 1,800 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Titanium Construction Services Inc. is the general contractor for the project, which is located on a relatively narrow 5,000-square-foot site bound by Christopher Street to the north and Barrow Street to the south.

Glass Curtain Installation Begins on Tiffany & Co.’s Expansion in Midtown, Manhattan

Installation of the wavy glass curtain wall has begun on the steel-framed addition atop Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store at 727 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by OMA partners Shohei Shigematsu and Jake Forster, the project involves a three-story addition over the original roof line of the 71-year-old Art Moderne building, which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. CallisonRTKL is the architect of record and Peter Marino Architects is handling the interior renovations for the iconic jewelry store. Tiffany & Co. temporarily relocated its flagship to an adjacent storefront at 6 East 57th Street during construction.

Demolition for 27-Story Pace University Tower Complete at 15 Beekman Street in Financial District

Demolition is now complete at 15 Beekman Street, the site of a 27-story academic center and dormitory for Pace University in the Financial District. Designed by Manish Chadha of Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by SL Green Realty, the 338-foot-tall structure will be addressed as 126-132 Nassau Street and yield 213,084 square feet of classrooms, dorms, a dining facility, a library, and a learning center. The building will also have a cellar, sub-cellar, and a 20-foot-long rear yard.

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Emily Roebling Plaza Takes Shape in DUMBO, Brooklyn

Work is taking shape on the $8 million Emily Roebling Plaza underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The final component of the 1.3-mile-long Brooklyn Bridge Park complex designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., the plaza honors Emily Roebling, who supervised the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge and became the first person to cross it in a horse-drawn carriage after its opening on May 24, 1883. The 2-acre park, located right off of Water Street near the DUMBO Brooklyn Bridge Park ferry terminal, broke ground amid a snowstorm on December 9, 2020. Attending and speaking at the ceremony were Kriss Roebling, Emily’s great-great grandson, along with his wife Meg Roebling and their two children Chase and August Roebling.
