520 Fifth Avenue’s Curtain Wall Takes Shape in Midtown, Manhattan

At number three on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 520 Fifth Avenue, a 1,000-foot residential supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 76-story structure will span 415,000 square feet and yield 98 condominium units with interior design by Charles & Co., as well as commercial space on the ground floor and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

The Greenwich’s Exterior Nears Completion at 125 Greenwich Street in Financial District, Manhattan

The fourth-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is The Greenwich, a 912-foot-tall residential skyscraper at 125 Greenwich Street in Manhattan’s Financial District. Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects and developed by Fortress Investment Group, Bilgili, and Bizzi & Partners, the 88-story structure will yield 273 condominium units designed by March & White (MAWD) and marketed by Douglas Elliman Marketing Development. Homes will range from studios to three-bedroom layouts with pricing starting at $1.15 million. Time Square Construction and Plaza Construction are the general contractors for the property, which is located at the corner of Greenwich and Thames Streets, just south of the World Trade Center complex and Liberty Park.

262 Fifth Avenue Soars Higher Above NoMad, Manhattan 

The fifth-tallest building under construction in New York is 262 Fifth Avenue, an 860-foot-tall residential skyscraper in NoMad, Manhattan. Designed by Meganom with SLCE Architects as the executive architect and developed by Boris Kuzinez of Five Points Development under the Five Points 262 Project LLC, the 56-story structure will yield 26 condominiums with an average scope of 3,200 square feet, including at least one quadruplex unit. GEA Consulting Engineers is the MEP engineer and CM & Associates Construction Management is the general contractor for the project, which located on a 5,000-square-foot plot on the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 29th Street.

The Orchard’s Façade Begins Installation at 27-48 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, Queens

At number six on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is The Orchard, an 811-foot-tall residential residential skyscraper at 27-48 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by BLDG Management Company under the Building Orchard LLC, the 69-story structure will span 635,000 square feet and yield 824 rental units with nearly 200 designated as affordable housing, as well as 13,000 square feet of retail space, 100,000 square feet of amenities, and a two-story parking garage with 207 spaces. Triton Construction Company is the general contractor for the project, which is alternately addressed as 43-01 Queens Street and 42-02 Orchard Street and occupies a full city block along Jackson Avenue between Queens and Orchard Streets.

Excavation Begins at 29-15 40th Road in Long Island City, Queens

Construction has broken ground at 29-15 40th Road, the site of a new residential building in Long Island City, Queens. Details are slim for the project, which is being designed by Fogarty Finger Architects and developed by SB Development, which also acquired the adjacent lot at 29-13 40th Road for $8.7 million over the fall. 29-15 40 RD LLC is listed as the owner and Alba Services Inc. served as the demolition contractor for the property, which is located on an interior lot bound by 40th Avenue to the north and 40th Road to the south.
