One of the few vacant lots left in prime Williamsburg is about to become an apartment building. New building applications were filed yesterday for a six-story, seven-unit development at 650 Metropolitan Avenue, only a block from the Lorimer stop on the L and G trains.
Yesterday, we checked in on Two Trees’ new tower at 286 Ashland Place, where construction is making rapid headway. Work seems to be moving at a similar place at 333 Schermerhorn Street, just a few blocks away, where Douglas Steiner’s 53-story project dubbed “The Hub” is now roughly two-thirds of the way to its pinnacle, per the latest from Tectonic.
Vitaly Raykhman, doing business as Eliyah Realty, has filed applications for a six-story, 8,991 square-foot mixed-use commercial building at 2619 East 16th Street, in southern Sheepshead Bay, a block from the B and Q trains’ stop at Sheepshead Bay Road. The first two floors will be designated as community space, measuring a total 4,004 square feet, and unspecified commercial space will take up the remainder of the building. Igor Zaslavskiy’s Sheepshead Bay-based Zproekt Architecture is designing, and a 2.5-story building must first be demolished.
Westchester County-based Matt Development has filed applications for a five-story, 21-unit mixed-use building at 144 West Street, in Greenpoint, located a block in from the East River. The building will total 14,805 square feet, and includes 1,190 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. All but two residential units will be located on the second through fifth floors, and outdoor rooftop space will be available to residents. The units will likely be rentals, averaging a relatively small 648 square feet apiece. The site has been vacant for some time, and GF55 Partners is designing.
The City Planning Commission officially kicked off the public review process yesterday for the administration’s three major housing policies to date: mandatory inclusionary zoning, zoning for quality and affordability, and the East New York rezoning.
