The New York City Council has approved plans to convert a defunct 29-story hotel development near the DUMBO, Brooklyn waterfront into an affordable housing complex. The building is located at 90 Sands Street and was formerly owned by the Watch Tower Society, a business entity for the Jehovah’s Witness religious organization.
The development team at Breaking Ground has revealed proposals to redevelop a Jehovah’s Witness-owned property at 90 Sands Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The conversion would repurpose the building for supportive and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income households.
Breaking Ground, New York’s largest supportive housing provider, is set to begin construction this week on Betances Residence, a new supportive, affordable housing property at 443 East 142nd Street in Mott Haven, The Bronx. Designed by COOKFOX, Betances Residence is expected to debut in 2021 and will contain 152 units for the formerly homeless and low-income seniors.
Permits have been filed for an eight-story mixed-use development at 448 East 143rd Street in Mott Haven, The Bronx. The site is six blocks away from the Brook Avenue subway station, serviced by the 6 trains. Seven blocks away is the Third Avenue subway station, serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. Manhattan-based non-profit Breaking Ground will be responsible for the development.
Ground was broken at 2865 Creston Avenue yesterday to mark the beginning of construction on Bedford Green House, a 13-story supportive and affordable housing project in The Bronx’s Bedford Park neighborhood. The development is expected to cost $58.8 million, with almost half financed by the New York City Housing Development Corporation, HDC, under their Extremely Low- and Low-Income Affordability (ELLA) program.
