With Harlem’s 125th Street seeing a proliferation of new developments in recent years, it should come as no surprise that twenty blocks to the north, the 145th Street Corridor is also growing once again. Building applications have been filed for an eight-story building at 210 West 145th Street, between Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard, on a lot that is currently vacant.
Back in August of 2016, YIMBY posted the permits and then the initial reveal for an affordable senior housing building coming to 1017 Home Street, in the South Bronx. Now, we have a substantially revised version of the project to share, thanks to its architect, Body Lawson Associates.
A development team has been selected by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to build a five-building, 740-unit mixed-use project at the site of the abandoned Spofford Juvenile Detention Center. The facility, spread across five acres, is located at 1221 Spofford Avenue, in the South Bronx’s Hunts Point section. The development team comprises of Gilbane Development Company, the Hudson Companies, and Mutual Housing Association of New York.
Last week, developer Bronx Pro Group filed plans for an affordable, senior housing development that would replace an abandoned church at 1017 Home Street, in a South Bronx neighborhood known as Foxhurst.
On a cold January day in 2009, a pipe burst and flooded the boiler of the Home Street Presbyterian Church, in the Foxhurst section of the Bronx. A small electrical fire destroyed the boiler for good, and the company that insured the church failed during the Great Recession. Facing a winter without heat and lacking the funds to repair the boiler, the congregation scattered to other churches in the South Bronx, and the little chapel on Home Street was abandoned. Now, the 1910 structure will be demolished to make way for affordable senior housing.
