The latest images depict the condominiums as well as the project’s residential amenities, such as the rooftop terrace and an entertainment room. Foundation Work Underway for Essex Crossing’s 14-Story, 55-Unit Mixed-Use Building at 242 Broome Street, Lower East Side

Foundation work is now underway for the 14-story, 55-unit mixed-use building under development at 242 Broome Street (a.k.a. Site 1), located on the corner of Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side. The construction progress can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by user rbrome. The latest building permits indicate the new building will encompass 180,646 square feet. There will be 40,326 square feet of commercial-retail space across portions of the cellar through third floors. A bowling ally operated by Splitsville Luxury Lanes is expected to lease a significant amount of space. In addition, there will be 17,735 square feet of community facility space on the second through fourth floors. The space was once reserved for the Andy Warhol Museum, but plans for it have fallen through.

Construction Update: Essex Crossing Chugs Along On The Lower East Side

When completed, Essex Crossing will be a big deal for the Lower East Side. The multi-building project is on the former Seward Park Urban Renewal Area, and will have several residential structures, as well as commercial amenities galore – from a new Essex Street Market to a Regal Cinema, a bowling alley to a medical center, gardens both beer and regular, office space, and more. Excavation Begins On 14-Story, 50-Unit Mixed-Use Building At 242 Broome Street, Lower East Side

Earlier this year, YIMBY revealed renderings for the first phase of Essex Crossing, a multi-site mixed-use project on the Lower East Side being developed by L+M Development, Taconic Investment and BFC Partners. Bowery Boogie now reports excavation has begun on the first building, located at 242 Broome Street, where a SHoP-designed 14-story, 55-unit mixed-use building is planned. Splitsville Lanes will occupy the basement, and other retail space is also expected on the ground floor.
