Construction is nearing the finish line on Beckford House and Beckford Tower, a pair of residential buildings in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Crews are almost completely done installing the fenestration of Brynne Brownstone and Indiana Limestone on both the 19-story, 215-foot-tall Beckford House, located at 301 East 81st Street and also addressed as 1562 Second Avenue, and the 29-story Beckford Tower at 301 East 80th Street. The project is designed by Studio Sofield and SLCE Architects and developed by Icon Realty Management, with CM & Associates in charge of construction management.
1562 2nd Avenue
Back in January, YIMBY released new renderings of 301 East 81st Street, aka 1562 Second Avenue that showed a two-story addition to the tower. Now, the upcoming residential building has topped out over the Upper East Side, as facade installation continues. Designed by Studio Sofield and SLCE Architects, the 215-foot-tall structure stands 19 stories high and is being developed by Icon Realty Management. There will be 28 condominiums, a second-floor amenity space, and future retail space on the cellar and ground floor.
Last year, YIMBY brought you news of Icon Realty’s planned 14-story, 12-unit mixed-use building at 1562 2nd Avenue, on the Upper East Side, and now the developer is planning another luxury residential and retail building at 1538-1546 2nd Avenue, a block to the south, between 80th and 81st Streets. According to the New York Post, demolition is underway to remove existing tenement buildings. Although applications are not on file for 1538 2nd Avenue, construction is expected to start in early 2016, or around the same time as their project at 1562 2nd Avenue.
