The NYCHA has revealed plans to significantly renovate and repair its aging portfolio of affordable housing properties in a deal valued at $271 million. Referred to as PACT, or Permanent Affordability Commitment Together, the consortium of public and private entities has committed to renovations on 16 individual buildings including 1,718 apartments throughout Manhattan.

Designed by RKTB Architects and developed by Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens, the project will contain 135 apartments reserved for low-income seniors. The development will replace the Our Lady of Loreto Church, which was demolished in 2017.

Located at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the religious complex spans almost one acre and will include a synagogue, prayer spaces, ritual baths, classrooms, a new library, and several outdoor areas. This is a draft design, that has not been approved by the Chabad organizations, owners of the property.

Radio Tower & Hotel Tops Out at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights

Construction has topped out on the Radio Tower & Hotel, a 22-story building at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights. Designed by MVRDV with executive architect Stonehill & Taylor and developed by Youngwoo & Associates, the building features a ceramic brick façade that breaks away into eight boxy volumes, each with its own distinct color. From top to bottom this includes a vibrant lime green and yellow that transition into subdued blue, red, orange, teal, and magenta materials. Overall, the building’s design draws inspiration from the diversity and vibrancy of the existing neighborhood and is described by MVRDV as a colorful welcome sign to upper Manhattan.
