Work is continuing on 30 West 39th Street, a 27-story hotel tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Fortuna Realty, the 323-foot-tall structure will yield 330 guest rooms spread across 133,500 square feet. Leeding Builders Group is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just one block south of Bryant Park.

Since our last update in early January, construction has progressed on the terraces at the top of the building and above the podium setbacks. The top of the hotel and the glass curtain wall facing West 39th Street are largely finished, as are the blank gray walls on the eastern and western elevations.

The majority of the remaining exterior work is now focused on the podium and bottom floors. A new glass railing has been installed above the ground floor and sidewalk scaffolding. Above that is a partially exposed ceiling lined with perimeter columns, and a double-height mechanical floor enclosed with several rectangular ventilation grilles, which are surrounded by a uniform skin of dark gray metal panels. Sidewalk scaffolding still obscures the ground floor.

Below are photographs of the rarely seen southern elevation of the hotel, with its secondary rooftop terrace spanning the entire length of the floor plate.

  1. This building looks so depressing. I really don’t like it.

  2. Beautiful building!

    • Tear it down!!
This is another disaster from the Chinese or Hong Kong team Peter Poon architects.
      What a piece of CRAP!
This building belongs in the gulag

  3. Barf on toast

  4. Still looks like “Poon” to me!
    🤣😂🤣

  5. Three of the sides are terrible.

  6. Stunning building. Those who complain that beautiful design no longer exists clearly have not gazed upon this gift to NYC’s collection of impressive buildings. It’s obvious that the architects lavished thought and an abiding commitment to context when crafting this beauty. Long after other structures have come and gone, this one will assert itself proudly through the ages.

  7. The “rarely seen southern elevation”—I wish I could un-see it!
