555 West 38th Street stands topped out as a 570-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan’s Hudson Yards. Developed by Rockrose and designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects with SLCE as the architect of record, the 52-story reinforced concrete structure will yield a total of 598 rental units. Site C GC LLC is stated on the construction board as the general contractor for the project, which is located along Eleventh Avenue between West 38th Street and West 39th Street, and sits directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

Our last construction update in the end of March saw progress on the envelope passing the halfway mark and the superstructure recently topping out. Now almost all of the floor-to-ceiling glass panes have been installed across all four sides of the building. The only significant portion that remains is where the exterior mechanical hoist sits on the back eastern elevation. This should likely be dismantled and removed sometime soon as trucks and deliveries continue to arrive to the bottom of the hoist. Meanwhile sidewalk scaffolding still runs along Eleventh Avenue, but we can see the curtain wall reaching the ground floor with most of the machinery and equipment cleared from behind the fencing.

There hasn’t been any news about upcoming residential amenities or what the interiors of the units will look like. Though it’s strikingly clear that future occupants are going to have prime views looking over the Jacob K. Javits Center toward the Hudson River, sunsets over Jersey City, Hoboken, and Weehawken, New Jersey to the west, the evolving and rising skyline of Hudson Yards to the south, and Midtown to the east and north. The nearest subway station id 34th Street – Hudson Yards, servicing the 7 train and can be accessed by walking to Bella Abzug Park, while more subway lines including the 1, 2, 3, A, C, and E trains, and NJ Transit and Amtrak are found at Pennsylvania Station.

  1. because nothing says “home” quite like a black glass tower across the street from a convention center.

    • I live in this neighborhood and it’s great! This building looks really nice and is coming together well. Admittedly it’s lacking in restaurants, and is not charming like many other parts of the city but it’s super clean, new, and there really aren’t any crazy people roaming the streets.

  2. Very nice!
