Aloft Hotel at 50 Trinity Place Tops Out in Financial District, Manhattan

Construction is topped out on 50 Trinity Place, a 28-story Aloft Hotel in the Financial District. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by FIT Investment Corporation, which purchased the property for $15 million in 2012, the 77,310-square-foot tower will yield 173 hotel rooms at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street, diagonally across from Trinity Church.

Work has been swift since our last update in February, when the superstructure had just climbed above the multi-story podium. Activity on the tower has now shifted to the installation of the windows and façade.

An American flag is perched atop the top of the edifice, marking the milestone for the construction of the ground-up hotel.

Most of the windows are in place with the exception of the floor-to-ceiling panels on the northeastern corner of the tower. The perimeter concrete and cinder block walls are also still exposed, but should be enclosed soon. It looks like the western and southern profiles will be left blank with the expectation that the neighboring empty sides will eventually be developed.

Renderings show a sweeping white canopy with a reflective underside that cantilevers from the eastern and northern walls of the ground floor in a diagonally mirrored design. This will curve and extrude upward at the eastern corner and frame the main lobby and tall glass walls that open up to the sidewalks. Above, the rest of the podium levels are enclosed in a dark cladding before switching to a lighter color palette for the main tower. We can expect to see the envelope installed throughout the rest of the summer and fall months.

50 Trinity Place will likely be completed in the first half of 2022.

Pictures showing the complexity of this exterior skin are spot on and anyone in the trades will appreciate. Looking forward to the illuminated final product.
