A new rendering has been released for 3 Sutton Place, a 847-foot-tall residential skyscraper under construction at 430 East 58th Street in Midtown East. Spotted on architect Thomas Juul-Hansen‘s Instagram page, the rendering shows the 62-story tower illuminated at night from the East River. The project is being developed by Gamma Real Estate with Stephen B. Jacobs Group as the executive architect and will yield 121 units. The property is located between Sutton Place and First Avenue, a short walk from the Sutton Place Park North esplanade that overlooks the East River, Roosevelt Island, Long Island City, and the Queensboro Bridge.

Until this reveal, little detail had been disclosed regarding the skyscraper’s final look. The depiction illustrates the tower’s uniform grid of floor-to-ceiling windows and light stone walls culminating in an illuminated crown composed of a wrap-around motif made with concentrically indented rectangular panels. There will also be five pocketed terraces in the centerline of the southern elevation on the final levels of the structure. From the building’s isolated position on the East Side of the island, residents will have impressive panoramic vistas of the city and the supertalls of Midtown, the Financial District, Downtown Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Hunters Point, and Long Island City.

Currently, the last portions of the cladding are in the process of being installed, and the entire tower could be enclosed sometime this summer. The exterior elevator hoist should be also be removed in the coming months.

3 Sutton Place is estimated to be completed sometime in early 2022.

Peace of mind on me to read your details, so created according to a design; beautiful planned with its progress: Thanks to Michael Young.

  2. This does make me feel a bit better about this one. I have been liking it a bit more already, but this is good stuff.
    Nice find, YIMBY!

  3. I remember when the Sovereign went up in the early ’70s; it’s the hi-rise to the right of 3 Sutton that is going up. The Sovereign was the “supertall” apartment building in its day and was, as only an oldster like me knows, a rental. A very expensive one, but a rental nevertheless. When the condo conversion boom started, the prices for these apartments took off.

  4. Is the is the building the neighbors tried to stop? If it is then I’m glad they lost. This tower is beautiful, especially the horizontal sectional bands giving relief to the vertical ascent. Nice crown, too.
