Construction has topped out at 219 Hudson Street, a ten-story mixed-use building in Hudson Square. Designed by Rawlings Architects and developed by the Joel Braver, the project will yield 14 residential units, ground-floor retail space, and a community facility. The site is located at the crossroads of Broadway and Canal Street, just to the west of the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

Photographs show the façade being gradually revealed from behind the multi-story black netting and scaffolding that’s enshrouded the entire edifice throughout the building process. Gray panels surround the windows and come in various square and rectangular dimensions, and are lightly scored with lines. The curved balconies and railings on the top floors are also in the process of being installed.

No official rendering has been released for the project, though the degree to which the exterior has been revealed gives a sufficient impression of the final appearance of the building. Each level will house more than two homes, and private balconies are available for a select number of upper-level units. Occupants will have views of the Lower Manhattan skyline and will be able to see the transformation of Hudson Square into a more residential neighborhood alongside a mix of large tech and media company headquarters. Each residence is expected to average around 1,500 square feet. Residential amenities include a bike storage room, storage space, a lounge, and outdoor terraces spread across on the third, sixth, and eighth floors of the building.

219 Hudson Street is anticipated to be completed this winter, as noted on the construction fence.

  1. That’s amazing! How did they move Broadway almost 3/4 of a mile to the east?

Has anyone writing for New York YIMBY ever been to NYC?

  2. Allergic to ornament; Naked to the street.

  3. It’s a bit bland, but it does have a nice shape to it.

  4. gross, indict the architect.

  5. Imagine the noise.

  6. Junction of Hudson St and Canal St.

  7. I live nearby and has watched this go up…such an eyesore. And just imagine living there with all the traffic right at your doorsteps!

  8. It’s a terrible location. Literally one of the worst development lots in lower Manhattan. Looks like from the exterior it’s going to be a Hilton Garden Express. Not sure why any of its residential as no one will ever willingly choose to live there.
