This week Douglaston Development announced the topping out of 601 West 29th Street, a mixed-use residential tower that will bring 703 market-rate and 235 affordable housing residences to West Chelsea. The 60-story skyscraper encompasses an entire block on Eleventh Avenue from West 29th to West 30th Streets on the border of West Chelsea and Hudson Yards. In addition to the 938 rentals, components include over 50,000 square feet of amenity space and 15,000 square feet of retail space. The 695-foot-tall structure is designed by FXCollaborative with Levine Builders handling construction.

“We’re beyond grateful to our construction team that has exemplified all of the hard work needed for us to achieve this significant topping out milestone both safely and on schedule,” said Paul Finamore, CEO of Levine Builders. “We’re looking forward to continuing that effort to bring this project to completion, providing the West Chelsea community with an additional housing and retail opportunity.”

Amenities include multiple tenant lounges, a gym with fitness studios, an outdoor pool, multiple roof decks, indoor and outdoor pet spaces, bike storage, and parking for 186 vehicles.

601 West 29th Street is part of a two-building development and known as Tower A, with 606 West 30th Street as Tower B. 606 West 30th Street, a 545-foot-tall mixed-use high rise, is being developed by Lalezarian Properties and designed by Ismael Leyva Architects.

601 West 29th Street is expected to be ready for occupancy by summer 2022.

  1. Photos or it didn’t happen.

  2. This is great news! When you say affordable, affordable to who? It would be nice if there were more buildings for normal hard working people with reasonable rents. I am a senior in need of a low affordable one-bedroom apartment. It would be great if I am able to stay in this neighborhood where I’ve lived all my life. If there are any availability for a person like me please send me an application. Thank you

  3. This skyscraper looks much better among the supertalls in Hudson Yards than I had anticipated. In fact, I hope this will be the maximum height of anything built in Phase II of Hudson Yards. Unfortunately that’s probably wishful thinking.

If anyone would like to see a recent pic, I posted one two days ago to Instagram, @gardenviewnyc

  4. last time i went on ny housing connect – their “affordable” offerings we not so affordable. i was deemed too rich to apply for a $2,300 / month studio, not even in manhattan. at 2,300 – i would be spending nearly half the dollars that hit my bank account each paycheck on rent. not to mention the odds of winning the housing lottery is .0016 so not as though that is really a realistic option either. the affordable housing program is helping 1 out of every 592 applicants land a barely-affordable place so hardly solving the housing issue in a meaningful way

  5. $2300… İs it affordable housing or gaslighting? Give me a break!

  6. Nice, but some photos by our friend Michael Young or something would’ve been appreciated. ☺
