Permits have been filed for a 31-story hotel high rise at 32 West 48 Street in Midtown‘s Diamond District. Located between Rockefeller Plaza and Sixth Avenue, the interior lot is half a block east of the 47-50 Streets-Rockefeller Center subway station, serviced by the B, D, F, and M trains. Extell is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 456-foot-tall development will yield 213,158 square feet, with 168,897 square feet designated for commercial space. The building will have 534 hotel rooms, with an average unit scope of 316 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar and sub-cellar.

SLCE Architects is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the lot is vacant. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

  1. When you hear Extell filing permits for a thirty one story building you know it’s going to be interesting.

  2. The Diamond District is the single block of W. 47th St, between 5th & 6th Aves. No amount of wishful thinking on the part of Google Maps, which inexplicably includes much of Rockefeller Center as being in the District, can make it any larger than that one block. This project is not in the Diamond District.

  3. Steve, no wishful thinking is needed because the land parcel and the new construction runs from West 47th to West 48th. Half of it is most definitely in the Diamond District.

  4. Why would anyone build a hotel in this market. I’m sure you can buy existing, vacant ones and customize them for a lot less.

  5. Does anyone see any issues with all of the outstanding permits/projects Extell has outstanding that are empty lots with no progress being made? How much leverage do they hold.
