A new affordable housing project at 315 Linwood Street in East New York, Brooklyn, recently opened its doors to residents. Known as Linwood Park Apartments, the ten-story building contains 100 units of mixed-income housing, residential amenities, and supportive facilities for low-income and formerly homeless residents.

The developers responsible for the property include B&B Urban and L+M Development Partners. Linwood Park Apartments is the first multifamily affordable rental project to debut in the newly rezoned area of East New York meant to spur the development of much-needed low-income housing.

“Hats off to our partners L+M and HousingPlus and to the NYS Department of Housing and Community Renewal and NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development for stepping up to finance such sorely needed housing,” said Alan Bell, principal of B&B Urban. “This marks the completion of the first new residences made possible by the city’s large-scale rezoning of East New York and we are especially gratified that 100 percent of the apartments will serve low income New Yorkers, including 30 units for formerly homeless families.”

The breakdown of units includes 30 units of supportive housing for the formerly homeless, ten units of affordable housing for families earning 50 percent of the area median income (AMI), and 59 units of affordable housing for families earning 60 percent of the AMI.

Designed by MHG Architects, the range of apartments includes 25 studios, 25 one-bedrooms, 33 two-bedrooms, 16 three-bedrooms, and a live-in superintendent.

Community facility spaces, also designed by the MHG Architects, will occupy 3,500 square feet. These facilities include supportive services administered by HousingPlus, a non-profit community agency dedicated to assisting the formerly homeless and extremely low-income households overcome poverty, addiction, and the effects of incarceration.

Residential amenities available to all tenants includes a community room with a kitchenette, a computer lab, a children’s library, a fitness room, a laundry room, and landscaped outdoor space.

Linwood Park Apartments will feature photovoltaic panels and energy-efficient appliances.

“The COVID pandemic has disproportionately impacted families struggling with housing insecurity and economic hardship and these challenges have been particularly acute in neighborhoods like East New York,” said RuthAnne Visnauskas, New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner. “That is why we are so pleased to see 100 households have moved into Linwood Park Apartments and will have access to resources and support designed to help them move forward and live successful, healthy lives.”

  7. Too bad it has to be mixed with multi family. Seniors would like quite. Brooklyn has never been called East New york. I grew up in lower east side Manhattan. All boroughs are separated. We need more seniors who have earned their Social Security the honest way. Az is a dead beat state, not blog any senior housing for seniors that are affordable. Too many over priced fancy ones.

  8. Would love to fill out an application , a new resident in the city.
