A week after YIMBY first revealed renderings of 343 Madison Avenue, we’re back with a full rendering that further outlines the design and massing. The 925,630-square-foot Midtown East supertall is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and is being developed by Boston Properties.

Taking the place of the former Metropolitan Transportation Authority headquarters, the lot with frontage along Madison Avenue is bound by East 44th and 45th Streets. According to the Environmental Impact Statement, the development will rise 1,050 feet. Using a 30 floor area ratio (FAR), the structure will contain 55 stories with 5,357 square feet of ground-floor retail and 832,613 square feet of office space. The remaining 87,660 square feet will be used for circulation space and mechanicals. A no-action development can be built as-of-right with a 15 FAR and rise 472 feet. The 30 stories would contain 6,144 square feet of ground-floor retail, 411,540 square feet of office space, and 59,915 square feet of mechanicals and circulation space.

343 Madison Avenue will also have a new entrance for the East Side Access. Components include a double-height corner entry space along East 45th Street and Madison Avenue, three escalators, a staircase, an ADA elevator, and MTA back of house with a street entrance.

  1. Does this really make me feel better about this building? Not really. I’m still kind of disappointed. But maybe I should snap out of it. ?

  2. The ‘crown’ of a soaring building should be an inspiration..But this one is an all-time letdown.

  3. I’m looking for a job like maintenance cleaning housekeeping residential building cleaning I have experience like 6 years to 7 years experience

  4. Really ? This banal , uninspired box is the best that KPF could do ? Look no further than the nearby One Vanderbilt as an example of a soaring, majestic, proper addition to the NY skyline. Please no, no and no to 343 Madison.

  5. What is action massing?

    • Evidently that’s the resulting massing if they take action to earn all the additional air rights. The action would be paying $250/sf to the District Improvement Fund for at least 3 of the additional 15 FAR, while the rest might acquired from a landmarked site in the district. If they take no action to earn the additional rights, they can only build it half as big.

  6. This is disappointingly dull. KPF is capable of much better.

    What are they going to do with all that glass when the Green New Deal goes into effect?

    They could always brick up the entire building to save energy.

  11. I guess no one at Boston properties with the architectural firm belong to the Yale club. the roof at the yale club has always been a special place thank you for making it one big shadow

  13. This building will never come out of the ground, unless the city returns to normal. Many tradespeople will leave NYC due to lack of work opportunities. But the unscrupolous general contractors/developers will have an unlimited supply of untrained illegal aliens because of NYC’s “Sanctuary City” status. Cash payments and no taxes. Good job Comrade De Bozio and Generalissimo Ohno!
