Exterior work is nearing completion on the Turkevi Center, a 563-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper at 821 First Avenue in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Only a few minor touches remain to be completed on the podium of the 35-story tower, which is designed by Perkins Eastman and will serve as the consulate for the Republic of Turkey.

Photographs show the look of the warm-colored geometric stone tiles that frame the slim eastern profile of the podium. Northern elevation of the podium features a glass curtain wall with curved corners and sleek horizontal metal dividers between the floors.

From afar, 821 First Avenue blends into the Midtown skyline with other nearby skyscrapers such as One Vanderbilt50 United Nations Plaza, and the Chrysler Building. The window washing rigs rest within the signature sloped crown, preserving the building’s unique massing.

The development will feature 102,000 square feet of commercial space spread across the first 15 floors. An auditorium will be located in the cellar levels, and offices, a prayer room, passport and visa branch offices, and outdoor terraces will occupy the  seventh, 11th, and 16th floors. The property will also contain 40,195 square feet of residential space divided among 20 apartments for both staff and visitors, starting on the 20th floor and averaging 2,045 square feet apiece. Two homes are set to become duplexes. Residential amenities include a fitness center, a shared outdoor terrace space on the 20th floor, and an underground parking garage for 20 vehicles.

Construction on 821 First Avenue is reported to be finished in the second half of 2021.

  1. Nice..Designed when Turkey was a bit more in the “good graces”

  2. Great time for new residences to be coming on the market!

  3. Nifty. This definitely fits in with the cityscape.

  4. Better looking than many of the other glass boxes littering the New York skyline.

  5. A little loud, but elegant. By the way, it’s not in Turtle Bay, or even in Murray Hill. It’s strictly Midtown at 44th St.

  6. Beautiful building. Too bad Turkey has descended towards a theocracy led by a creepy undemocratic autocrat. Sound familiar?
