Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center Quickly Rising in the Financial District

The cubic structure of the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center is continuing to take shape in the Financial District. Designed by REX and developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with Davis Brody Bond Architects as the executive architect, the 138-foot-tall structure is located in the World Trade Center complex at the foot of One World Trade. A lot of progress has occurred since our last update in early February, when the steel trusses that form the bottom portion of the superstructure were just being assembled. Now work has climbed well above with the formation of the multi-story perimeter of V-shaped columns. This section of the building will be enclosed in the white marble façade.

Recent photos by Tectonic show the state of progress at the site. The current focus of work appears to be the outer steel shell that will house 99-, 250-, and a 499-seat theaters, along with a rehearsal room that can be transformed into a fourth venue space. Workers have not reached the final architectural height yet, but it’s conceivable that topping out could occur by the end of the summer. The center will contain three main sections: the Public Level on the bottom, the Performer Level in the middle, and the Play Level on the top, with a total of 11 different venue arrangements.

This the only ongoing construction project right now at the World Trade Center complex. The final pieces that have yet to commence are Norman Fosters’ Two World Trade Center, aka 200 Greenwich Street, immediately to the east, and Santiago Calatrava’s St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church atop the one-acre Liberty Park.

YIMBY last reported that the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center is scheduled for completion sometime in 2021.

  2. Yes, it’s actually going up!
    Have a good July 4th everyone!..stay safe!

  3. The Bauhaus is over. Empty monument now to a failed ideology. There is no cross..just another holocost museum
