Cubic Façade of ODA’s 101 West 14th Street Taking Shape in Chelsea

Façade work is progressing at 101 West 14th Street, a 13-story residential building in Chelsea. Alternately addressed as 531 Sixth Avenue, the 145-foot-tall structure is being developed by Gemini Rosemont and features the signature cubic style of its designer ODA. Whitehall Interiors is in charge of designing the 45 units.

Recent photos from Tectonic show the state of progress at the site, which is located at the corner of Sixth Avenue and West 14th Street along the border of Greenwich Village. The curtain wall is now about halfway up the superstructure, making clearer the distinction between the flat and recessed volumes of the idiosyncratic massing. The floor-to-ceiling windows are framed by light gray metal paneling, some of which extends two stories, highlighting the building’s double-height spaces. Private outdoor terraces will be scattered across the southern and eastern elevations. Metal clips continue to be installed along the edges of the upper floor plates in preparation for the installation of the remaining sections of the façade.

101 West 14th Street will span 80,140 square feet, with 54,520 square feet dedicated to residential use and 5,830 square feet for two ground-floor commercial tenants. The condominium program includes 21 duplex units. Amenities include an outdoor rooftop terrace, a tenant lounge and fitness center on the second story, storage for 23 bicycles, a laundry room, and a second fitness room in the cellar. The 14th Street subway station is located directly outside the property, with access to the 1, 2, 3, F, M, L, and PATH trains.

101 West 14th Street looks like it could be finished sometime in the first half of 2021.

I like the look but it is not In the northern edge of Greenwich Village. It is considered the southern edge of Chelsea.

  2. This reminds me of the multi-surface Gehry-designed building at Yale. They’re still trying to seal the many leaks. Good luck.

  3. Dude, spend up and spring for better glass, what’s with these wavy sh*t?
