Construction has topped out at 167 Willoughby Street, aka 112 Fleet Place, a 132-foot-tall residential building in Downtown Brooklyn. The 12-story structure is designed by Bricolage Design Associates and developed by Boomerang Building Fund, which purchased the lot for just over $4 million. Located at the corner of Willoughby Street and Fleet Place, just to the east of Flatbush Avenue and directly north of the Long Island University Brooklyn campus, the 24,250-square-foot project will bring 23 units to the neighborhood.

The structure will have no more than two apartments housed on each level, and will feature amenities including bicycle storage, three parking spaces, and a shared rooftop deck. The main rendering shows what looks like a dark metal façade with two columns of balconies on the wide eastern elevation and several vertical strips of floor-to-ceiling glass panels. It’s likely that the western facade could also share the same fenestration layout, but that will only be seen once the black netting comes down.

The closest subways are the B, Q, and R trains at the DeKalb Avenue subway station underneath the CityPoint complex; the 2 and 3 at the corner of Hoyt Street and Fulton Street; and the R to the west along Willoughby Street at the Jay Street-MetroTech station. There is one-story structure to the immediate west of the topped out building that houses small retail shops, while access to the Manhattan Bridge and the rest of Downtown Brooklyn via Flatbush Avenue is to the west at the end of the street.

167 Willoughby Street is slated to be finished in May 2021, as noted on the construction fence.

Well, it’s all too late now, but it’s a damn shame the very last old building that gave this area some historical context is now gone. Parts of DT Brooklyn and LIC are beginning to look like Houston.

  2. Interesting Dali-esque rendering. Just needs a melting clock hanging from a leafless tree.

The Dali-esque rendering is only missing a melting clock hanging from a leafless tree.
