Excavation is getting deeper at 451 Tenth Avenue in Hudson Yards, site of a 580-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper from Handel Architects. Bryan Cho of Related Companies filed permits in early June 2019 for the 44-story building, which will rise directly to the north of 66 Hudson BoulevardBjarke Ingels‘ supertall known as The Spiral. A great deal of earth has been excavated from the lot, a former parking lot located between West 35th and 36th Streets and Tenth Avenue and Hudson Boulevard. Spitzer Enterprises is co-developing alongside Related.

Photos through the construction fence show excavators working along the eastern side of the property by Tenth Avenue, while most of the other half has been dug up. The site is located due east of the Jacob K. Javits Center‘s main entrance, with Bella Abzug Park in between.

Work has yet to begin on 451 Tenth Avenue’s reinforced concrete foundation slab and perimeter walls. The superstructure will eventually rise adjacent to 500 West 36th Street, an existing six-story building on the northeastern corner of the parcel. Roughly one third of the block is fenced off and vacant, and is being used as a staging ground for construction vehicles and machinery.

Three years ago, Spitzer Enterprises and Related Companies announced plans to develop a two-tower, 1.4-million-square-foot project on the site. The first tower will contain 414,634 square feet of space, with 267,915 designated for residential space, 113,513 for community facilities, and 33,205 for commercial use. The skyscraper will yield 260 residences and include a cellar and a 14th floor mezzanine for future residents.

No completion date or final rendering for 451 Tenth Avenue has been released.

  1. Check your numbers re the number and size of residences

  2. ^^ Exactly

  3. These super talls and current style of stacking boxes is ugly and boring.

  4. Kinda close to ‘The Spiral’ ain’t it?
