Work Appears to Stall at 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

YIMBY went to check out the site of 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, where work on an 11-story residential building appears to have stalled. The bottom floors and lower section of the superstructure have been completed, while construction has yet to reach the cantilevering top floors. Isay Weinfield collaborated with FORM4 Design Studio PLLC to design the project. Pizzarotti is in charge of the build, which is expected to yield a total of 25 condominiums.

Photos show the progress on the reinforced concrete core. There is still a portion of the steel rebar exposed above the poured concrete walls that has yet to be enclosed. The egress and elevator core must be finished first before the cantilevering floor slabs can proceed. Façade installation has not begun, and it is unclear when work on the project site will resume.

251 West 14th Street would slot in neatly with the surrounding streetscape thanks to the direct alignment of its setback and roof parapet with those of the adjacent eastern building. The cantilever would slightly protrude to the west. This section of the building is rendered to have a much darker color scheme of what looks like metal panels that contrasts with the first eight floors of the structure, which is clad in a light-colored curtain wall with floor-to-ceiling windows. The 14th Street station is immediately to the west at the intersection with Eighth Avenue, serving the A, C, E, and L trains.

A completion date for 251 West 14th Street is uncertain at the moment.

  1. This is one of several in-progress sites which have stopped that YIMBY has reported on, including a much-hyped one on W.66 St.

Could it be that developers see what direction NY…city and state…are going and are cutting their losses for now? The loss of 188,000 taxpaying citizens from the state’s population is nothing to ignore, with no indication of the exodus slowing down. The Cuomo-endorsed “congestion pricing” is another sword hanging over the heads of developers, too, making living in Manhattan all that much more expensive.

Maybe it’s time to face the political reality taking place around us.

  2. Piss off troll. If you really think those things have anything to do with this you need to be committed. You’re just trying to stir political discord. How’s the weather in Moscow?

  3. NFA. U really need to relax. Have a glass of wine
