One Willoughby Square’s Glass Curtain Installation Begins in Downtown Brooklyn

Installation of the curtain wall has begun at One Willoughby Square, aka 420 Albee Square, in Downtown Brooklyn. The first row of industrial-style glass panels is now in place on the second floor of the 34-story, 495-foot-tall reinforced concrete skyscraper, joining the other windows already installed on the eastern and northern elevations. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by JEMB Realty, the topped-out project currently holds the title of the tallest new office building in Brooklyn, and will yield 500,000 square feet of Class A office space. Gilbane Building Company is in charge of construction.

Photos show the recent activity at the site along Albee Square West. Several more components of the rich blue-colored brick exterior panels were spotted on flatbeds awaiting installation.

Meanwhile, the safety cocoon netting that covered the flat roof parapet is almost entirely taken down.

FXCollaborative will occupy floors seven, eight, and nine, while the very top of the skyscraper will provide 18-foot-high ceilings and a private outdoor loggia. The upper half of the building will have expansive views of the Manhattan skyline, the harbor, the Statue of Liberty, and the surrounding Brooklyn neighborhood. Read YIMBY’s write-up of last October’s topping out ceremony for photos of the tower’s views.

The DeKalb Avenue subway station is located across the street with access to the B, Q, and R trains. The 2 and 3 trains are also nearby at Hoyt Street, as are the A, C, F, and R trains at Jay Street-MetroTech. The DeKalb Market Hall, Trader Joe’s, Target, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and a number of small retail stores are all nearby at City Point. Immediately to the north of One Willoughby Square is Willoughby Square Park. Only a small section of the public green space is currently open, but the project should be totally finished upon completion of the skyscraper.

One Willoughby Square is slated to be finished within the fourth quarter of 2020.

  1. If this project is going to completed by the end of the year, the park will surely not be completed. Willoughby Square Park is expected to open a full year later.

  4. Why the lies in Africa, many Westchester County residents claim to love Africa, yet they are helping drafting laws that perpetuate hatred amongst Africans especially in Senegal.Senegalese own restaurants in Harlerm, yet people in Dakar are going hungry.
