Handel Architects’ Madison House on Pace for 2020 Completion in NoMad

Work is nearing completion on Madison House, aka 126 Madison Avenue, number 18 on YIMBY’s countdown of the tallest projects under construction in New York City. Designed by Handel Architects, the 805-foot-tall, 62-story residential skyscraper topped out over NoMad with its façade almost entirely completed. Fosun Group and JD Carlisle are developing the nearly 300,000-square-foot project, while Douglas Elliman is handling sales and marketing of its 199 condominiums.

Just a little over a year ago, YIMBY checked in on Madison House when construction was reaching the halfway mark. Today, its multi-pointed crown is finished and the crane on the slim southern elevation is coming down in sections. The only portions of the exterior awaiting completion are the lower floors, where build-out of the 7,500-square-foot ground-floor retail has yet to begin.

Madison House is currently the tallest skyscraper in NoMad with the upper floors easily seen from Madison Square Park.

The best angle to see the entirety of the reinforced concrete superstructure is from the northeast corner of East 30th Street and Madison Avenue, as photographed below.

The sales gallery for the building is located across the street to the east on the 12th floor of 44 East 30th Street. See YIMBY’s last article on Madison House for the views residents will get from the top floors of the tower, which include sight lines of Lower Manhattan to the south, Long Island City to the east, and the Empire State Building and Midtown directly to the north. Along with its relatively tall height, the distinctive top of the building certainly makes it stand out against the flat roofs of the surrounding towers.

The closest subways from the site are the 4, 5, and 6 trains at the 33rd Street subway station. Madison Square Park is only five minutes away by foot, as are a number of retail and dining places like Eataly, the rooftop bar and lounge at 230 Fifth Avenue, the Rizzoli Bookstore, and more.

Madison House is expected to be done next year.

  1. Nice photos..many beautiful buildings in this neighborhood.

  2. Construction Management by MD Carlisle iprovides a major quality assurance not common to high rise construction in NYC.

  3. I hope Michael Young is planning a coffee table book of these fabulous photos sometime in the not-too-distant future.

  4. I like this one. The angled roof is simple but looks great.
