The plaza at the base of 111 Murray Street is getting close to completion in Tribeca. The 10,000-square-foot public park sits to the east of the main entrance of the 792-foot-tall residential skyscraper, which was completed in 2018. The 64-story glass tower is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and Hill West Architects. Witkoff Group and Fisher Brothers are the two developes. Plaza Construction is the main contractor and DeSimone is the structural engineer, and marketing and sales for the residential units are being handled by Douglas Elliman.

Work on the plaza is almost complete, with only a few minor finishing touches remaining before its imminent opening. Edmund Hollander Landscape Architects designed the outdoor space, which features curved wooden benches, movable seating, an elliptical-shaped lawn and fountain, landscaping, and a set of small stairs and ramps.

Meanwhile, the retail space on the western elevation of the ground floor appears externally complete, along with the sidewalk landscaping, ADA-accessible ramp, and stairs.

111 Murray Street contains 157 apartments, including two full-floor penthouse units on the top levels with diagonal balconies in the northeast and southwest corners of the superstructure. These terraces are positioned in the seam where the reflective curtain wall splits and fans outward. Photos from below on the sidewalk and across the neighborhood reveal the tower’s distinctive hourglass-like form.

The site is a short walk to the World Trade Center, Brookfield Place, the Westfield mall at the Oculus, Hudson River Park, and a Whole Foods Market is located right next door.

Glad to get more open space in the friendly confines of Tribeca. Hopefully we can get a real dog park somewhere eh?

  2. Similar in outline to Beijing’s “Zung”.

Probably one of the best glass box towers. The accessible public park at the base should be a consideration with most of these new projects. NYC can always use more green spaces to have a seat.
