Renderings have been revealed of Avalon Tower, a 70-story skyscraper that will be one of the tallest structures to rise in Jersey City and all of the state. Approved last month, the 950-unit building will be located at 444 Washington Boulevard near the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. The developer, known as Tower Cove Jersey City Urban Renewal, plans to build the tower on the northwest corner of the site, which is currently occupied by a parking lot. Part of the project includes public spaces called the East Coast Greenway Plaza and Overlook Plaza along Thomas Gangemi Drive that will offer Manhattan skyline views, a pedestrian terrace, a children’s play area, and a dog run.

Designed by Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects, the development will have a tower rising 722 feet high and a shorter structure topping out at 575 feet. As reported in Jersey Digs, both buildings will have façades incorporating aluminum and brushed stainless steel elements. The makeup of residential units breaks down to 505 studios, 265 one-bedrooms, 160 two-bedrooms, and 20 three-bedrooms. Amenities include a multipurpose terrace on the second floor and an outdoor terrace and pool on the 59th floor. When completed, the Avalon complex will comprise a total of 1,448 units, including 498 apartments for the existing Avalon Cove buildings on the property.

South of the tower along Washington Boulevard will sit a six-story building with a 382-vehicle parking garage, a health club, and 17,192 square feet of retail space. Supplementary parking for the retail component will be added with a 130-vehicle surface parking lot.

No start date for construction has been announced.
