New Jersey-based Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners has released a rendering for the recently approved 61-story mixed-use tower at 900 Broad Street in Newark. The high-rise will have 552 residential units, three levels of amenities, and a sky lounge.

Located on the corner of Green Street and Broad Street, the tower will be across the street from Newark City Hall and near the Prudential Center area. Two blocks away is the Newark Penn Station train station.

Little is known about the development team, Broad Green, LLC, which owns 894-900 Broad Street and the adjacent 892 Broad Street site.

The rendering shows an airy, light-filled podium with double-height windows that will likely serve as the residential lobby and commercial space. Above the base of the building are 16 floors of floor-to-ceiling windows, wrapped in a cement treatment and featuring alternating insets, followed by the remaining residential floors in a glass curtain wall with exposed vertical posts.

No completion date has been announced.

  1. I hate when “nobody” developers propose proyects out of their league & get them approved by a city abused & ignored by developers for decades, desperate for its first true skyscraper since 1930….

They have no intention of ever building it. This simply increases the value of the land so they can flip it!

  2. They need balconies for fresh air..

  3. If money is lost, it can be recovered

  4. I’m originally from NYC and have lived in Newark for over 20 years and I love it and where I live. I quickly learned why a city with a downtown area just 20 minutes by rail from Madison Sq, Garden could have so few amenities, office towers, nice apartment building shops and stores. This is changing and Newark’s renaissance is not a myth.

Not sure it this tower will ever get built and I agree with the comment that the proposal may be just another real estate scheme to boost the value of the land but it is stunning in its design. However,I think the site is poorly chosen. A building this tall, possibly over 700 feet, is too close to the airport. A better site could be a mile or two further north nearer the Broad Street RR Station and I-280. 5 years since a taller tower called four corners Millenium Tower was proposed, that site hasn’t come close to being prepared for such a developement.

  5. Another tip off that the purpose of the proposed development is jut to boost the value of the land is the claim that it is only two blocks from Newark Penn Station. This is not true as a quick look at the area on GoogleEarth reveals. More like 5 blocks from the station’s Market Street entrance this tower would be if built. And that walk would be tough in summer since downtown Newark has so few shade trees….
Good news is that there are many wonderful new developments completed in Newark for anyone willing to walk or drive around and see. The Hahne & Co conversion to shops and residences as well as a Whole Foods is the best example and a frequent destination.
