The Bluestone Organization and Crown Holdings recently celebrated the commencement of construction at 1182 Woodycrest Avenue in The Bronx. Located in the borough’s Highbridge neighborhood, the nine-story building is designed by Crown Architecture and Consulting and will comprise 40,808 gross square feet.

When complete, the structure will contain a mix of 45 rental apartments that range from one- to three-bedroom layouts. A majority of the units will be reserved for households and individuals between 30 and 80 percent AMI, while a total of nine units will be marketed specifically as affordable independent residences for seniors, more commonly referred to as AIRS. This designation allows developers to increase the scale of their projects.

Residential amenities will include laundry facilities, an outdoor terrace, a communal lounge, bicycle storage, and on-site parking. The building will also include a community space for senior residents.

Excellent news for those not in the elitist class. We need to see dozens of buildings like these built in every borough every year. Lots of vacant land, surface parking lots and unused industrial buildings abound to make it happen.

  2. Very plain but that’s how you keep construction costs down.

  3. Plain and cheap are two separate things. Plain can be classic and beautiful. I suspect this will be neither.

  4. It’s a good thing the city is depressing the income in one of the poorest neighborhoods in NYC. Heaven forbid the neighborhood improve economically.
