Renderings Revealed For New YMCA Facility in Northeast Bronx, at 1250 East 229th Street

The New York City YMCA has begun the public approval process for a new facility planned in the Northeast Bronx. The project is located in the Edenwald neighborhood, and will be located at 1250 East 229th Street. This latest expansion is part of the organization’s ongoing growth alongside the La Central project, which YIMBY has previously reported on.

The new Edenwald facility is part of a citywide effort by the Y to make its programs more accessible.

The $58 million development will create 50,000 square feet of community space, and bring with it a full-service recreation facility. Included will be two pools, a full length basketball court, and a gymnasium. Childcare, summer camp services, as well as a host of educational resources will also be part of the program. 100 new permanent jobs will be created due to the expansion, along with 101 temporary construction jobs.

The site is located in a three-acre urban forest, something which its designer, Marvel Architects, will leverage in terms of the design.
